Rockwell and Carstater hearing files, 1930-1948.

Hearing transcripts, exhibits, correspondence, legal documents, including affidavits and statements, and subject files relating to the removal of Dept. of Education Commissioner John G. Rockwell on charges of inefficiency and actions inconsistent with the duties of his office, and of Vocational Education Division Director Eugene D. Carstater, on charges of being unqualified for the position. Both cases began with Board of Education hearings and concluded with appeals to the state Supreme Court. In the Rockwell case, he appealed and lost. In the Carstater case, the Board of Education appealed a District Court ruling in Carstater's favor. The high court upheld the lower court ruling and Carstater was reinstated to his position.
